A 7-year-old boy was mauled to death in a vicious dog attack in Idaho. The boy’s mother attempted to save her son from the pack of dogs, but she was too late.

Just before 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, Kellan Islas went outside of an RV where he was staying with his mother on the Fort Hall Reservation. When her son didn’t return after a few minutes, Emily Islas went to check on Kellan.

His mother found her son face down on the porch. He was attacked by four dogs, including two Rottweilers and two mixed breeds.

Emily stated on a GoFundMe page that she did everything possible to save Kellan.

“She is an amazing woman and mother and sacrificed herself to try and save her little boy,” the organizer of the GoFundMe campaign stated.

The mother and son were rescued by first responders who took them to Portneuf Medical Center approximately 50 miles away from Idaho Falls. Kellan was killed in the horrific dog attack.

Emily was immediately taken to emergency surgery. Her friend said that the mother remains in intensive care.

Shoshone–Bannock Tribes stated the dog’s owner and mother are not members of the tribe.

All four dogs involved in the fatal mauling of the boy were killed.

According to The New York Post, the 15 violations that were related to the mauling were committed by Benjamin Wolfchild and Juliana Wolfchild. These violations included vicious animal attacks and vaccination against Rabies. They also exceeded the maximum number of canine and feline pets.

According to the Shoshone–Bannock Tribes and Fort Hall Police, Fort Hall Criminal Investigators and Fort Hall Police are all currently conducting an investigation.

This case will be presented to the United States Attorney to review for possible federal charges.

Earlier this month, a 7-year-old Louisiana girl was mauled to death by a neighbor’s pit bull.

In another dog attack this month, an 11-year-old Georgia boy had 80% of his scalp torn off when three pit bulls mauled him.

In December, a 4-day-old baby was killed by the family’s Siberian husky.

In October, two small children in Tennessee were mauled to death by the family’s two pit bulls. The mother of the children was also attacked. She survived but needed to be hospitalized.

DogsBite.org, a national dog bite victim’s advocacy group, found that of the fatal dog attacks in 2019, 69% were committed by pit bulls, 13% were by mixed breeds, and 8% were by Rottweilers.
