Actor Gary Busey, known for his role as Buddy Holly in the 1978 film “The Buddy Holly Story,” has entered a guilty plea to a single charge of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact. This development follows an incident at New Jersey’s Monster-Mania Convention in August 2022.
Reports indicate that Busey, now 81, made a virtual court appearance on July 31, in which he admitted to unauthorized contact, namely, touching a woman’s buttocks without her consent. According to reliable sources, the woman was among several who accused the actor of inappropriate conduct at the aforementioned convention.
Busey initially faced five criminal charges related to the incident and initially pleaded not guilty in a March arraignment. However, after his guilty plea, prosecutors have dismissed the remaining charges.

Busey’s attorney, Blair R. Zwillman, claimed that his client was ‘overcharged’ due to his celebrity status and suggested that a lower-level charge, such as a disorderly persons offense for harassment, would have been more appropriate.
The evidence suggests a storied career for Busey, who has gained recognition not only for his film roles in ‘Point Break’ and ‘Lethal Weapon,’ but also for his ventures into reality television. His accolades include a victory on Season 14 of the U.K. show ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ and participation in ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and ‘The Apprentice.’
In 2023, the actor was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run collision in Malibu, but the unidentified woman involved did not press charges. This raises important questions about the impact of public figures’ actions on their professional and personal lives.
The significance of this should not be overlooked, as it reminds us of the importance of consent and respect for personal boundaries. This case serves as an important reminder for all of us, regardless of status or profession.
