This campaign season has been filled with surprises. President Joe Biden’s campaign is surveying to compare Vice President Kamala Harris with former President Donald Trump.

The New York Times reports

The analytics team for the Biden campaign ordered the survey this week. This is the first survey since the debate that Mr. Biden’s aides have conducted to see how the vice president would perform at the top.

The campaign failed to explain the purpose of its survey, nor what it planned to do with the results. They could have been collecting information to convince President Obama that he only has a slim chance to win or to prove to him that Mr. Biden is still the best representative for his political party.

Several high-profile Democrats have publicly called for Biden to withdraw from his race, claiming that he’s no longer on the path to victory. Media outlets with a left-leaning bent also put pressure on Obama and suggested Democrats replace him if he refused.

According to NYT, there is a heated discussion behind closed doors within Biden’s inner circle. Top aides are debating if they should convince the President to allow another candidate to take on Trump in November.

Jennifer O’Malley Dillon, Julie Chavez Rodriguez, and others wrote a memo to their staffers about “the road ahead” on Thursday.

The authors wrote, “There’s no indication that anyone could perform better against Trump than the President.” “Hypothetical polls of other nominees are unreliable, and they do not take into account the negative media climate any Democratic nominee might face. “The only Democratic nominee who already has this baked into their campaign is President Biden. ”

The current situation could affect Team Biden’s morale. Recent reports have indicated that members of the campaign believe former President Barack Obama is actively working to remove Biden.

SCARBOROUGH: We need to make sure that the viewers understand. Many Democratic leaders believe that Barack Obama is behind this.

Biden is also being called out by many.

Jennifer O’Malley Dillon, Biden’s director of campaign, said that the results of this poll could have a major impact on Biden’s next candidacy. She stated that if Biden withdraws, he only has two options: Biden or Harris.
