Dr. Monica Bertagnolli is a surgeon oncologist, and the director of the National Cancer Institute. She was chosen by President Obama as his nominee.
As Director of the National Cancer Institute Dr. Bertagnolli advanced my Cancer Moonshot, to end cancer in its current form. She has brought partners and resources together from different sectors in order to launch groundbreaking initiatives in cancer prevention, early detection and a navigation program for children with cancers.
Bertagnolli, if nominated, would replace Francis Collins who resigned from the NIH in 2021. Lawrence A. Tabak currently serves as acting director of NIH.
