A doctor in California suggests the idea that you can have an abortion via a ship off of the Gulf Coast.
In an interview with KCBS Radio, Dr. Meg Autry said that she is an OB/GYN professor at the University of California San Francisco revealed her vision for a ship that would be used as an abortion clinic in Federal waters off of the Gulf of Mexico.
The Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health inspired Autry to find a way to provide easier access to the murder of preborn children for women in Southern states whose legislation protects preborn life.
According to the website of the ship organizer, the ship will be named “PRROWESS”, which stands for “Protecting Reproductive Rights and Women Endangered by State Statutes.”
The site describes its mission as a “solution to individuals who seek reproductive healthcare and surgical abortion when it is illegal or impossible.”
“Those in the most southern parts of Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, and Texas may be closer to the coast than to facilities in bordering states where abortion and reproductive health care are available,” according to the website. “The clinic will be able to offer services such as contraception and point of care STI testing that may not be offered at the closest land facilities.”
And what about services if the baby somehow survives? Or if the mother needs greater medical attention? Unlike other abortion mills that can at the very least call an ambulance, will there be a hospital ship floating nearby? Will there be emergency helicopter services? Federal waters are nine nautical miles from the coast of Texas and three nautical miles from the coasts of Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi, but how long would it take to reach a hospital from the “PRROWESS”? The site, of course, does not say.
Autry said in an interview that he believes that people who care deeply about bodily autonomy and access to information are more willing to take risks, as well as be creative and innovative.
Most people believe in bodily autonomy. However, it is more about when one can be autonomous over their body. Bodily autonomy means the ability to choose whether to have a partner and take the risk of having a baby, not whether to kill a child because someone made a mistake.
Some actions, such as sex, have consequences. Just as a person cannot jump from a 40-story window to change her mind midfall, so is changing one’s mind during pregnancy. Because the pre-born child is still a child. No child should ever be killed, no matter where he is located — in or out of the womb.
