During the U.S. special forces raid to capture or kill ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the military used dogs to track down and corner the elusive terrorist.
After the solders cleared the compound, “with people either surrendering or being shot and killed,” Trump said, “the only ones remaining were Baghdadi in the tunnel, and he had dragged three of his young children with him.”
He reached the end of the tunnel, as our dogs chased him down. He ignited his vest, killing himself and the three children. His body was mutilated by the blast. The tunnel had caved in on it, in addition. But test results gave certain immediate and totally positive identification. It was him,” Trump said.
No U.S. military personnel were injured in the raid, but Trump said, “Our dog was hurt. Actually, the K-9 was hurt, went into the tunnel. “
” Our K-9, as they call — I call it a dog, a beautiful dog, a talented dog — was injured and brought back,” he said Sunday as he detailed the mission. “We had nobody even hurt. And that’s why the dog was so great. “
Deputy National Security Adviser Victoria Coates announced on radio host Hugh Hewitt’s Monday program that military dog is expected to recover.
On later in the day, Trump posted a tweet about the dog.
“We have declassified a picture of the wonderful dog (name not declassified) that did such a GREAT JOB in capturing and killing the Leader of ISIS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi!” he wrote.
