The Democrat-led House of Representatives voted 217 to 213 in favor of an “assault weapon” ban. H.R. 1808 was the legislation. The legislation, H.R. 1808 was sponsored by Rep. David Cicillene. Cicillene tweets passage of the bill
The Democrats were planning to vote on an “assault weapon” ban Wednesday but they had to withdraw the legislation when they realized that they might not have enough votes.
Rep. Lauren Boebert (R.CO) warned this morning about the work of Democrats to gather enough support to vote for the measure today.
It is unlikely that the legislation will pass the 50-50 Senate.
Breitbart News reported on July 21st, 2022 that the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), estimated that over 24 million AR- and AK-style rifles are in circulation. This means that there are more AR- and AK-style rifles than Ford F-Series trucks.
Larry Keane, NSSF’s general counsel, criticized Friday’s passage of the ban because of the tactics Democrats used in securing passage. He stated, “This legislation was as dangerous as it is revealing the contempt for Constitution and the U.S. Supreme Court.”
Keane said, “Chairman Jerrold Ndler admitted during debate in the committee that he didn’t care that the legislation was unconstitutional. It defied Supreme Court precedent.” Instead of representing the interests of “the People”, Democratic representatives represent special-interest gun control organizations that seek to disarm law-abiding citizens, and make them scapegoat for other crimes.
