The fault lines within the Democratic Party over antisemitism have burst wide open, and what we are witnessing is no longer confined to the margins. Two sitting Democratic congressmen have drawn a line in the sand, promising to force repeated expulsion votes against a Texas congressional candidate whose rhetoric has crossed into territory that should alarm anyone who values basic human decency.

Representatives Jared Moskowitz of Florida and Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey are making an extraordinary pledge. Should Texas Democrat Maureen Galindo win her race this November in a Republican-leaning district, these two lawmakers say they will introduce motions to expel her from Congress, and they will do so repeatedly if necessary.

The reason for this unprecedented intra-party confrontation deserves careful examination. Galindo, who works as a sex therapist when she is not campaigning, has proposed turning a local immigration processing center into what she describes as a “prison for American Zionists and former ICE officers for human trafficking.” Let that sink in for a moment. An American political candidate is openly calling for the imprisonment of fellow citizens based on their support for Israel’s right to exist.

But the troubling statements do not end there. Galindo has also used social media to claim that many Zionists are pedophiles who should be castrated. For context, Zionism is broadly understood as support for the Jewish people’s right to self-determination in their ancestral homeland. It is a mainstream position held by the vast majority of American Jews and millions of Christians and people of other faiths.

Representative Moskowitz pulled no punches in his assessment of the situation. He stated plainly that he does not care if Galindo wins her election. If she arrives in Washington, he will vote to expel her and force that vote every single day if that is what it takes.

This moment demands our attention because it speaks to something larger than one controversial candidate in Texas. The willingness of Democratic lawmakers to publicly threaten a member of their own party with expulsion signals that concerns about antisemitism within progressive circles have reached a breaking point that can no longer be ignored or explained away.

The question facing Democratic leadership is straightforward. Will the party stand with Moskowitz and Gottheimer in drawing clear boundaries around acceptable political discourse, or will it allow rhetoric that demonizes American Jews and calls for their imprisonment to find a home within its ranks?

Galindo has not backed away from her statements. She has not apologized or clarified. She has not suggested that her words were taken out of context or misunderstood. The silence is deafening, and it speaks volumes.

What we are watching unfold is a test of institutional integrity. When a political party faces a moment where its stated values collide with the actions of its candidates, the response reveals everything about that party’s true character. The courage shown by Moskowitz and Gottheimer in standing against a fellow Democrat deserves recognition, but it also raises uncomfortable questions about how such a candidate emerged from the Democratic primary process in the first place.

This story is far from over, and the American people will be watching closely to see how it resolves.
