A woman from Florida was arrested for allegedly threatening BlueShield Health Insurance with a copycat murder after the death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
The woman, Briana Boston, 42, of Lakeland allegedly called BlueCross BlueShield to complain about a medical claim that was denied and made a threat emulating the words of the killer who killed UnitedHealthcare’s CEO.
“Delay, deny, depose. You people are next,” the woman allegedly told the company on the phone.
Bullet casings that killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson were inscribed with the words “Delay Deny Depose”.
Police did not believe Boston when they arrived at her home to question about the call. She told them she had no guns and that she didn’t intend to harm anyone, according to the New York Post.
Police said that the mom was angry and wanted to threaten the company. She used a phrase that was strikingly similar to one Luigi Mangione is accused of scrawling on bullets with which he shot UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
Mangione is accused of murder in this case. He allegedly wrote the words “Deny,” Defend” and “Depose,” on the ammunition found at the crime scene.
Boston’s bail was set at $100,000. Sam Taylor, Lakeland Police chief, told WFLA: “She should have known better.”
Taylor stated, “She’s lived in this world for a long time and should know that in today’s environment, you cannot make threats and expect us not to follow through and jail you.”
Pennsylvania Governor. Josh Shapiro, a Democrat, denounced these views.
“In America, we do not kill people in cold blood to resolve policy differences or express a viewpoint,” he said. “I understand people have real frustration with our healthcare system. I have worked to address that throughout my career. But I have no tolerance, nor should anyone, for one man using an illegal ghost gun to murder someone because he thinks his opinion matters most. In a civil society, we are all less safe when ideologues engage in vigilante justice.”
