Superlatives have been overused in the last few years. Whether it’s calling something “breaking news,” or referring to a political move or event as “a big deal,” people are tired of using them. This story is likely to be a major victory for the integrity of the November 2024 elections, especially since it involves both Georgia and Election Day.
The Hill:
Georgia Election Board has ruled that local precincts will be responsible for counting ballots by hand, despite objections from state officials and concerns raised by election officials.
Georgia Election Board has ruled that ballots must be manually counted. This is an additional layer on top of the current machine counting. The rule change is less than 50 days before Election Day, in a crucial swing state.
John Fervier, the chairman of the panel was joined by Georgia Secretary Brad Raffensperger, and Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr to express their concerns about the ruling, less than two months before the elections.
This is a situation that concerns me in several ways. No. 1. I think that it is too close to an election. I think it’s too close to the election.
The Hill reported that Fervier had continued to express doubts about Georgia’s “resources” for following the rules.
Fervier cited the lack of resources in the counties for proper implementation of the rule change and the issues surrounding the chain of custody.
Raffensperger referred to state AG Carr’s warning regarding potential legal challenges in his remarks.
Attorney General Chris Carr stated that these rules could not be challenged in court. I have been working every day to improve Georgia’s electoral law so our elections are safe, secure, and free.
Georgia voters can rest assured that reforms implemented since 2020, and the legal defense of Stacy Abrams’ frivolous accusations in court will ensure only American citizens are allowed to vote in our elections.
Georgian elections are now the safest of all in the country. I am working every day to maintain this.
A decision such as this would only serve to reassure voters across the country that the election in 2024 will be conducted fairly. In November, all legal votes must be counted. We’ll let you know what happens next on the legal front.
