Angelina Jolie is not like her father Jon Voight. When it comes to politics, she has a different view, especially regarding Israel.
The stance she’s taking on the Jewish state is pretty much par for the course for Hollywood, which is a shame. In her younger days, Jolie never struck me as one who would conform to popular opinion, opting instead to think for herself. That doesn’t seem to ring true these days.
Breitbart reported on Jolie’s Instagram post in which she expressed disapproval over Israel’s bombings against Gaza following the horrific terrorist attacks perpetrated by Hamas. These attacks resulted in 1,400 civilian deaths.
Jolie started her speech by criticizing Hamas, but then she criticized Israel Defense Forces for bombing Gaza in retaliation. She, along with many other commentators, has ignored the fact that Hamas is using the people of Gaza as human shields. Israel is trying to eradicate the terrorists without harming innocents. It’s more than Hamas.
“Like many people in the world, I have spent the last few weeks feeling sickened and angry by the terrorist attack against Israel and the deaths of innocent civilians. I wondered what I could do to help. I’m also praying for the safe and immediate return of hostages as well for families that have lost a loved one.
The terrorist act that took place in Israel does not excuse the deaths of innocent civilians who are stranded in Gaza with no food and water. The civilians in Gaza also have no right to flee.
Jolie missed the fact Egypt and other countries in the region have closed their border to Palestinian refugees fleeing Gaza. Facts can be unpalatable to those who wish to promote a certain agenda.
She said she was most concerned for those “displaced” from violence, no matter the context. She said that Gaza has “over 2,000,000 (half children), who have lived under a severe, stifling ban for nearly two decades in addition to years of displacement and Statelessness.”
“The few aid trucks that enter are just a fraction of what was delivered before the conflict. The bombings create new and desperate humanitarian needs each day. Depriving a population of fuel, water, and aid is collective punishment. Humanity demands an immediate cessation of hostilities. All lives are important, whether they are Palestinians or Israelis, and other peoples from around the globe.
The Hollywood Reporter stated that Jolie and the United Nations High Commission for Refugees have been partners for over two decades. She is also involved in campaigns “to support forcibly displaced people around the world”.
In 2012, she was appointed UN Special Envoy. She joined the UN in 2001 as a goodwill Ambassador. She said at the time that she wanted to focus her efforts on a broader range of humanitarian and human rights issues.
Hamas is the clear villain in this conflict. They started the war without provocation and targeted innocents to be killed, including children.
