At a press conference on Monday night, Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes was questioned about the transgender rumors surrounding the alleged gunman. He suggested that “she, he, or they” may have identified differently, but this had nothing to do with the actual events.
A reporter who was not on camera noted in a LiveNOW video from Fox that the question of whether or not the shooter is transgender has been raised.
Barnes responded, “Yes, I do not know if [the shooter] is transgender or otherwise, and frankly, I don’t think it’s important.”
He said, “I do not think that what happened today had anything to do with how she, he, or they wanted to identify. I would like people to leave their personal biases at the door. Today, we had people come to work to help children who were not going home …”.
Barnes said, “Whether or not she, he, or they are transgender is something that will come out in the future, but at this moment, eight hours after an attack on a Madison school, it’s of no importance.”
