Reform California Chairman Blasts Controversial Proposal to Hire Illegal Immigrants for State-Funded Jobs

Carl DeMaio, the Reform California chairman, blasts a bill proposed by Democrats in the California State Legislature that would direct the University of California System to hire illegal immigrants as state employees funded by taxpayers.

“I’ve seen a lot of outrageous proposals by California Democrat politicians who bend over backward to make it easier for illegal immigrants to get into the country and receive taxpayer benefits. This one is the most insane of all,” DeMaio said.

Assembly Bill 2586, if passed, would allow illegal immigrants to work for the state government at taxpayer expense. DeMaio stated that the bill mandates that illegal aliens without U.S. Work Authorization should be allowed to apply for and take jobs through taxpayer-funded state universities.

“By passing legislation mandating that illegal immigrants are hired to fill taxpayer-funded positions in the state government, California Democrats not only make our border crisis worse but they also openly violate federal employment laws which prohibit hiring illegal immigrants!” DeMaio said.

DeMaio stated that the bill instructs the largest state agency in California, namely the University of California System, colleges and universities to hire illegal aliens, which is a violation of federal employment laws.

“They’re telling managers in state governments to break federal employment laws, which are very clear. It is against federal law to hire someone who is not authorized to work. DeMaio clarified that these illegal immigrants were not allowed to work.

He went on to say that the state government had decided, despite all of this, to break the law knowingly. According to him, university lawyers said that this opens the hiring manager up to federal prosecution and puts the illegal immigrants in legal danger.

This is crazy. It’s offensive. California taxpayers should not give state government jobs to undocumented immigrants. DeMaio stated that “on top of all welfare benefits, and all the other goodies being given away,” the state government is giving illegal immigrants jobs.

DeMaio stated that even the University of California Board, the Regents, and the University of California System, which has a board of director appointed by the Governor, had backed off this proposal about a year prior because university lawyers said the bill would create legal issues.

“It is a violation to federal law. It’s an open-and-shut case.” DeMaio explained that because the UC Board of Directors chose not to implement the policy, California politicians now want to mandate this by passing the law.

DeMaio stressed that this bill was a priority. The Assembly passed it with a vote of 59-4. He fears that the state Senate will pass and make this law. He said that it was just like “so many other bad policies” that encourage illegal immigration in California.

It’s a two-fold problem. It’s offensive that illegal immigrants are given state government jobs funded by taxpayers in violation of federal laws, which puts everyone at risk,” DeMaio stated.

Let’s not forget that California politicians are the main promoters of human trafficking. These goodies are given out, whether it is free health care on taxpayers’ dime or the sanctuary law or these government positions. “They’re putting on the table a bunch of goodies, at taxpayers expense, which the human traffickers will use to encourage and incentivize the illegal immigration across California-Mexico borders.”

DeMaio stated that this is not just a California issue, but also a problem on a national level.

DeMaio stated that “this is a national problem because if California continues dangling carrots through its state government at taxpayer expense to encourage illegal immigration, we won’t be able to secure our border.”

He praised Texas Gov. Greg Abbott for doing his job and sending resources to shore up Texas border with Mexico. DeMaio said that because Abbott had done such a good job addressing the border crises in Texas, San Diego Sector is now the number one illegal immigration crossing point in California.

DeMaio stated that this was the first time since 1999 that California had been ranked number one for illegal immigration crossings. He claimed that Texas had increased security at its border, which pushed illegal immigration towards California.

DeMaio stated that even if President Trump were to return to the Oval Office and even if federal policy was changed at the border, California politicians would continue to give taxpayer-funded benefits and taxpayer-funded jobs to illegal migrants. We will still have a crisis on the border and it will affect the entire country.
