Rep. Mark Green of Tennessee has officially announced his resignation from Congress, with a letter documenting this move being read on the House floor just this last Friday.
According to the House’s official website and the House Press Gallery X account, Rep. Green’s retirement comes into effect at precisely 11:59 p.m. on July 20. Green’s decision to leave Congress early was reportedly relayed to GOP leadership, including House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana, as first indicated by the media outlet Punchbowl News.

This development follows earlier reports that Rep. Green intended to tender his resignation after the signing into law of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act by President Donald Trump. The evidence suggests that Green has a job lined up after he departs from Washington, D.C.
Green was first elected to Congress in 2018. He announced in February 2024 that he would not seek another term. However, after persuasion from Trump and House Republicans, Green reconsidered and was successfully reelected last November.
Congressman Mark Green of Tennessee is set to leave the House of Representatives at 11:59 p.m. on July 20th.
