The Southern Baptists are meeting this week in Dallas, and boy, oh boy, they’ve got the liberals in a tizzy. They’re taking a stand against pornography, sports betting, same-sex marriage, and what they call ‘willful childlessness.’
These Baptists are calling for laws on gender, marriage, and family that are based on what they say is the biblically stated order of divine creation. They want legislators to support policies that promote childbearing and to curtail sports betting. You won’t hear this from the drive-by media, but that’s exactly what this is about – protecting the family unit.
In a denomination where support for President Donald Trump is strong, there’s little on the agenda referencing specific actions by Trump since taking office. The Baptists are more concerned with the internal governance of their own house, such as a proposed ban on churches with women pastors.

The Southern Baptist Convention, the nation’s largest Protestant denomination, is meeting on the 40th anniversary of a monumental Dallas meeting. This meeting was a pivotal moment in the takeover of the convention by a more conservative faction.
The proposed resolutions – on gambling, pornography, sex, gender, and marriage – reflect long-standing positions of the convention. They want legislators to pass laws that reflect the truth of creation and natural law. To some, this might seem theocratic, but the Baptists believe that the created order is binding on all persons, in all times, everywhere.

Now, you might ask, why is this important? Well, my friends, it’s because these political stances are in the realm of plausibility at a time when conservatives control all levers of power in Washington. It’s not just a matter of faith, it’s a matter of policy that could shape the future of our nation.
In the arena of ideas, conservatives win, and the Southern Baptists are standing up for what they believe in. They’re pushing back against the liberal agenda, and they’re not afraid to take a stand.
Make no mistake about it, this is just the beginning. The Baptists are standing up for traditional values, and they’re not backing down.
