Rep. James Comer (Republican from Kentucky) lashed out at the U.S. Treasury Department for failing to investigate Hunter Biden’s and his family’s suspicious foreign financial activities.
Comer stated that it was unacceptable for the Treasury Department to continue to cover the Biden family and hide information about Joe Biden’s financial benefits from family business transactions. This came in response to Comer’s formal rejection.
Comer, who is a ranking member of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform noted that Hunter Biden was previously flagged by U.S banks over 150 times for suspicious foreign wire transfers made out James Biden and him.
Republican legislators have claimed that some of these transactions were made by Chinese entities totalling $165,000.
A Republican lawmaker demanded previously twice that Janet Yellen, Treasury Secretary, investigate Hunter Biden, his family members and associates about the flagged transactions.
The department replied to his Friday requests and called the allegations “preliminary, unverified tip-and lead information about possible violations of the law.”
Jonathan Davidson, a Treasury Department official, wrote the letter to Comer. He also stated that the department would only respond “appropriate requests by committees of jurisdiction.” This could indicate that the department won’t respond if Democrats don’t agree.
Comer was furious at the department and accused the Biden administration, of changing the rules to stop an investigation.
He said, “The American people need answers and Republicans will use their power next Congress to get them.”
Kentucky Congressman, Hunter Biden’s son, has been a vocal Republican legislator demanding investigation into his suspicious financial transactions.
Breitbart News reported that Comer asked Edward Prewitt, Hunter Biden’s wealth adviser, to turn over bank records relating to international transactions of the Biden family.
Breitbart News was also informed by him that if Republicans win control of the House, they will investigate allegations that President Joe Biden almost sold one million barrels of U.S. Strategic Pressure gas to a Chinese-state-owned company that had financial ties to Hunter Biden’s private equity firm.
