In Fairfax County, Virginia, the public school system is embroiled in a serious controversy. The allegations involve a social worker at a high school who is accused of facilitating abortions for underage students, potentially using taxpayer funds, and allegedly without the consent or knowledge of the students’ legal guardians. The claims have been brought forth by a whistleblower, who asserts that the school had knowledge of these actions years prior and failed to take proper action.
The whistleblower, Zenaida Perez, an English as a Second Language (ESOL) teacher at Centreville High School, has come forward to share her firsthand knowledge of these events. According to Perez, the school’s former principal, Chad Lehman, questioned her in May 2022 about whether she had provided a pregnancy test for a student, which she denied.
Through her close relationships with her students, Perez learned that Carolina Diaz, a school social worker, had arranged an abortion for a minor student and covered the cost. Reports indicate that Lehman may have approved the use of school funds for this purpose. If proven true, this could mean taxpayer money was used without public consent.
Perez made her allegations public last week, accusing the school social worker of facilitating and funding an abortion for a 17-year-old student from Guatemala in the fall of 2021, without the knowledge of the student’s legal guardian. Subsequently, the superintendent of the school district, Michelle Reid, claimed the allegations were new to the authorities.
However, Perez warned school district officials multiple times over the past three years, starting in May 2022. The student involved also provided written testimony detailing Diaz’s role in facilitating and funding the abortion procedure without informing her family. Upon discovery, Perez claims she alerted Lehman and other school officials and sent an email outlining the allegations.
Following the social media storm last week, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) officials stated they had only just learned of the allegations and were launching an immediate investigation. This raises important questions about whether there was a cover-up within the school administration.

Over the past three years, Perez maintains that she engaged in at least seven meetings or interviews with school officials or investigators regarding the allegations. To date, it appears that no meaningful action has been taken to fully investigate the matter or hold those involved accountable.
According to reliable sources, another student may have been targeted by the school social worker, but fled the facility before the abortion could take place. As the new school year begins, Perez expresses her determination to speak out, stating, “I feel strong. I have truth and God on my side.”
This raises important questions about the transparency and accountability of our school systems, the use of public funds, and the protection of underage students. As the investigation unfolds, we must remember the importance of staying informed and seeking the truth.
