What to Expect: Impeachment Inquiry Hearing Scheduled for Next Week

Kevin McCarthy, House Speaker, has now shifted his focus to the ongoing budget battle that could result in a shutdown of the government. House Republicans are multitasking despite growing concerns over funding the government. Some are also working to move the impeachment investigation forward.

According to a new report released this morning, the official first hearing for this inquiry is scheduled for next Monday.

This week, the House Oversight Committee, led by James Comer (R-Ky. ), is expected to subpoena Hunter Biden’s and James Biden’s bank records. GOP lawmakers are hoping that these records can provide some insight into Biden’s alleged involvement with his family’s businesses and help them move forward in their investigation.

The hearing next week will be the first since House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-CA, formalized an impeachment investigation last week. McCarthy instructed Comer and House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan, R. Ohio, as well as Ways & Means Committee chairman Jason Smith, R. Missouri, to lead the inquiry.

According to Chad Pergram who broke the news at Fox News, the hearing next week will likely not cover anything new but rather focus on the information that has already been released, using evidence that the House Oversight Committee previously uncovered. But that’s just to prepare the groundwork for future events.

As mentioned above in the quote (and the tweet below), it appears that Oversight is going to be looking at bank records in order to find out where the money Hunter Biden received came from, and where it went.

McCarthy’s attempt to appease conservatives to avoid a shutdown is still my belief, as I stated last week. It’s clear that the compromise is not working, as we have a possible compromise but conservatives are firmly against it.

The impeachment investigation should still take place. House Republicans have one shot at making an impeachment of Biden successful. Even if they succeed in the House, the Senate will not take it seriously. But that’s not what this is about. House Republicans should continue to flood negative stories about Biden, which will allow presidential candidates to speak on issues that are important to voters, such as the economy, immigration, and crime.

The Republicans will benefit in the end if the stories about Biden and the “gossip” are not a burden on the candidates, but they are still heard by the American public. They’re building their bench while still hitting Biden in the face.

Polls show that it is already working. Biden’s age and negative stories are turning voters off. Democrats are furious over this but they opened the doors to all of it by repeatedly pushing for investigations and impeachment. They established the precedent that opposing a political rival is not enough, you need to investigate them and bring tarnishment to their name for their entire tenure.

Biden’s past makes it easy.

There is another thing I have been saying for quite some time: where there is smoke there is fire. And the Republicans found a great deal of smoke in Biden’s case. To borrow a phrase from Barack Obama, there is a “there there”, but the Republicans still haven’t found it. It’s there, but we haven’t found it yet. It is for this reason that an impeachment investigation is so crucial. The Republicans can use this to search for the fire and may find it.

They can flood the area with anything they find until then. This will negatively impact Biden. This is politics at its worst, but the Democrats set a precedent.
