Whoopi Goldberg, co-host of The View,” reprimanded Sunny Hostin on Thursday for saying that her ancestors didn’t receive slave reparations.
Goldberg advocated slave reparations for African Americans. Her reference to Special Field Order 15 issued Jan. 12, 1865 by Gen. William T. Sherman, is unclear. After meeting with twenty black ministers in Savannah Georgia, the order was signed. It was meant to grant freed slaves a plot no larger than 40 acres. This is why “40 acres and a mule” was used.
Hostin stated, “You all got 40 acre and a mule, because we didn’t get any.”
Goldberg stated, “Well, you didn’t do what I people did.” Your people didn’t show up and tell us we wouldn’t move unless you pay what we owe. They weren’t looking for you. But they were searching for my people and my folks. That’s because it was what was promised. We have paid reparations to many groups in this country, and we will continue to do so. The idea that we should pretend that we don’t owe anyone anything is absurd.”
Hostin complained previously about social media users calling Hostin racist for supporting reparations in an Oct. 10 segment that fell on Columbus Day. Goldberg agreed with Hostin on reparations and said they had been paid in the past for atoning past wrongdoings.
