AOC Slams Biden for Border Wall Construction

In a shocking turn of events, the Biden administration decided to channel their inner Trump and announce the construction of parts of a border wall in South Texas. Democrats reacted with fury, while conservatives chanted “We Told You So”.

The president, who had previously argued that border walls do not work, now has used executive power to waive 26 federal laws in order to continue building the wall. This decision was met with anger by people such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY, who released a statement criticizing the president.

The legislator did not mince words when expressing her disapproval. “The Biden Administration was not required by law to waive certain environmental laws in order to speed up the construction of the border wall. She said that the President must take responsibility for his decision and change course.

AOC argued that physical barriers were not a good way to stop illegal immigration.

The wall will not stop people from fleeing violence and poverty to come to the United States. If you have other options, why would you risk your own life or the lives of your children by crossing hundreds of miles in the desert or through the Darien gap? The walls only push migrants further into the desert, increasing their risk of death. This is a cruel and inhumane policy.

Irony is a great example of American politics. Bob Hoge of RedState noted:

It’s ironic that Biden, who put an end to Donald Trump’s attempts to build a wall, is now building one himself, while waiving 26 environmental laws, including the Clean Air Act and the Safe Drinking Water Act.

Karine Jean Pierre, White House Press Secretary, was also put in an unenviable situation of explaining away the apparent contradiction. It didn’t go well.

What I can say is that DHS had announced in June they would be moving forward. This is what I’m able to tell you. This is what I can tell you. I can speak on behalf of the President. The President stated that he had been asked directly. He does not believe that a wall at the border is effective.

This story highlights the precarious situation in which the Biden Administration finds itself. Joe Biden campaigned on an open-border platform. Soon after he took office, South and Central Americans began to show up at the southern boundary hoping to enter the United States. As a result, many major U.S. Cities are now feeling the strain of having to accept so many asylum seekers.

The president must now take action to resolve the crisis, even if it means pretending he does not want to. Maybe he should’ve been honest from the start.
