Criticism Directed at Biden Over Controversial ‘F-16’ Remark Regarding Gun Rights Advocates

Biden joked on Tuesday that Second Amendment advocates would “need an F-16 to take on the federal government,” a comment which was ridiculed by some Capitol Hill legislators.

“I’m a Second Amendment guy,” Biden said at a campaign event at a private California residence. “I taught it for four years, six years in law school. And guess what? It doesn’t say that you can own any weapon you want. It says there are certain weapons that you just can’t own. Even when it was passed, you couldn’t own a cannon. You can’t own a machine gun.

“So what’s the deal with the idea that it’s an absolute — you know, I love these guys who say the Second Amendment is — you know, the tree of liberty is watered with the blood of patriots. Well, if you want to do that, you want to work against the government, you need an F-16. You need something else than just an AR-15.”

Andy Barr (R-Ky.) said, “Well, he doesn’t sound much like a Second Amendment guy,” referring to Biden’s own self-description. “The truth is that President Biden’s positions have been hostile to Second Amendment rights for a long time. “I think his policy agenda is a clear demonstration of this.”

In a statement, Rep. Ron Estes (R-Kansas) said that it was “troubling” to hear Biden brag about his teaching days in college while blatantly misrepresenting Constitution and comparing guns used for self-defense to F-16 fighter planes. “He is clearly out of touch, as he believes that Americans cling to their guns and Bibles. We know that the Founding Fathers included this right in order to protect future generations’ ability to maintain their independence and defend themselves.

Biden’s cognitive abilities were also criticized by other Republican legislators.

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) said, “He should stick to what he knows.” His cognitive skills have declined significantly since he was elected, and it’s obvious. We swear to uphold the Constitution. What happens if he doesn’t uphold the Second Amendment? What are the First Amendment and Third Amendment going to be?”

Rep. John Duarte (R-Calif.) made a joke about the fact that the man who had said “God save the Queen” was now saying, “This guy is a liar.”

Duarte said, “I won’t pay much attention to Joe Biden quotations these days.” If someone could tell him that the Queen is dead, it would be helpful. “If he remembers, it would be helpful.”

Biden said that the AR-15’s popularity among gun manufacturers is due to their low production costs and high-profit margins.

Do you know why so many people in the industry support the AR-15? He asked. “First, it is the cheapest weapon they can make and the weapon with the highest profit margin. The AR-15 is the most profitable weapon to buy.

Biden recently renewed his call to change gun laws. He said in May that in order to achieve the same result as 1994, he would like Congress enacting a federal prohibition on “assault guns and high-capacity magazines” similar to one he assisted in passing.
