A former nurse has been sentenced to two years in prison following a disturbing incident involving her teenage stepson in Florida.

Alexis Von Yates, a Florida resident, appeared in court on Monday, where she entered a no-contest plea to a charge of lewd or lascivious battery on a child between 12 and 16 years of age. This charge was reduced from a more severe accusation of sexual battery by a person in a position of familial authority.

According to court documents, the incident in question occurred on July 26, 2024. Von Yates was reportedly discovered by her husband in a compromising situation with her 15-year-old stepson. The father, returning home from work, encountered the scene that led to the subsequent legal proceedings.

The court heard that Von Yates and the teenager had been watching a horror movie together late at night. Testimony suggests that before the incident, they had engaged in smoking a THC cartridge and playing video games. The victim’s mother, speaking at the sentencing, characterized Von Yates’ actions as those of an “incestuous pedophile” who had groomed her son.

The significance of this case becomes clear when we consider the sentence handed down by Judge Timothy McCourt of the Florida Fifth Judicial Circuit Court. Von Yates will serve two years in state prison, followed by two years of community control and a decade of sex offender probation. The judge stated that he accepted the plea deal with the agreement of the victim’s family.

This development follows earlier reports that the incident came to light through an anonymous tip, leading to a police investigation. Court documents reveal that the victim reported Von Yates had been making inappropriate remarks in the week leading up to the incident.

The broader implications of this case raise important questions about family dynamics and the protection of minors within blended households. It has been reported that the victim’s father has not spoken to his son since the incident, adding another layer of complexity to an already troubling situation.
