New York City Mayor Eric Adams has reportedly met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the wake of Netanyahu’s address to the United Nations General Assembly.
Mayor Adams affirmed that New York City remains a sanctuary for all, irrespective of their beliefs. He emphasized the city’s commitment to upholding freedom of speech and stated that, of all the world leaders he greeted, he was particularly proud to meet Netanyahu. He thanked the Israeli leader for his defense of the Western world and our way of life. Adams also reiterated his oath to protect New Yorkers against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
Adams highlighted Prime Minister Netanyahu’s assertion that threats to Jews worldwide are also threats to Americans. He stressed that as the mayor of the largest Jewish community outside Israel, he is committed to steadfastly supporting Israel’s right to defend itself.

However, this meeting is not without its critics. Zohran Mamdani, the leading Democratic candidate for mayor, has voiced his opposition to Netanyahu’s appearance. Mamdani argues that both Adams and his political rival, Andrew Cuomo, are seeking the approval of former President Donald Trump, to whom he attributes the allocation of billions of taxpayer dollars to support what Mamdani labels “war crimes”.
Mamdani contends that while a mayor may not be able to halt these alleged atrocities, they have a duty to uphold the city’s values, which he believes include a commitment to human rights for all, including Palestinians, and a striving for peace and justice.
So, we sit with this situation, two contrasting viewpoints both striving to represent the values and best interests of New York City. As more unfolds on this front, we will continue to bring you the facts, as we now know them.
