New York City Opens Mass Vaccination Sites To Combat Monkeypox Outbreak

New York City recently opened three mass vaccination centres to combat the “monkeypox” epidemic. ”

Ashwin Vasan (NYC Health Commissioner) visited Bushwick in Brooklyn to demonstrate how the city has dealt with the spread of the disease. Ashwin Vasan was visiting Bushwick, Brooklyn to inspect the area and discuss the city’s efforts in dealing with the problem.

As of July 15, 490 confirmed orthopoxvirus/monkeypox cases have been identified, with 461 in NYC, 16 in Westchester Cnty, 4 in Suffolk, 3 in Nassau, 1 in Sullivan, 1 in Chemung, 1 in Rockland, 1 in Erie, 1 in St. Lawrence & 1 in Monroe Cnty.

There are three locations that can be arranged by appointment: Aviation High School, Queens, and Bushwick Education, Brooklyn; as well as Bronx High School of Science.

The city made it possible to book more than 9,000 appointments online. They were however all booked within minutes.

Referrals from community partner organizations serving high-risk patients can provide approximately 4,000 additional doses.
