Kamala Harris made many mistakes during her disastrous presidential campaign. One of them was choosing Tim Walz who, in an obvious brand new vest and cap, went “pheasant-hunting” with a shotgun that he did not know how to use. He’s a joke in many ways, but on Tuesday the libertarian Cato Institute released its annual ranking of state governors based on spending and taxes.

Who was the last person to arrive?

Walz has been the North Star State’s governor since 2019. He is running mate to Vice President Kamala Harris in this election. Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank, is generally in favor of less government involvement in the private sector and lighter regulations, as well as lower taxes. The fiscal report card, released on Tuesday, looked at all 50 governors’ policies from 2022 until now to determine its ranking.

The Cato Institute gave Walz a grade of “F” in this version of the report. This is the lowest score ever given by the Cato Institute. The next lowest was Gov. Kathy Hochul (DNY) received a 29.

The report stated that “he has overseen substantial increases in spending and pushed for many tax hikes.” Minnesota’s general fund increased from $ 51.9 billion in the biennium 2022-2023 to $ 70.5 billion in the biennium 2024-2025, a 36% increase.

That’s why Kamala chose the renowned shotgun master of Minnesota. He already agrees with her idea of government spending: more is better, too much is even better, and bankruptcy will be inevitable. Cato’s information was more detailed than that.

The institute, for example, cited a piece of legislation that increased taxes and fees related to vehicles and transportation. This included indexing the gasoline tax according to inflation and increasing vehicle registration taxes. Walz has also approved raising taxes on salaries to fund a new paid family leave program.

Cato Institute has also given “A” ratings to six Republican governors. Gov. Kim Reynolds (R – IA) was ranked No. The top scorer was Gov. Jim Pillen (R-NE), Gov. Jim Justice (R-WV), Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, (R-AR), Gov. Kristi Noem, R-SD, and Gov. Greg Gianforte (R-MT).

Iowa number one!

There are many issues surrounding fiscal and tax policies.

Of course, the worst is the national deficit. The national debt is the elephant in the living room. The debt is almost $36 trillion as of this writing, and it’s probably past the point of return. It’s not easy to get out of this mess. Someone, a president, will have to enter office with a meat-axe, and not a surgical scalpel. We could stop the bleeding if we removed every federal agency that was not authorized by the Constitution.

No one is talking about it, of course. Trump’s tax policies are far superior to the Democrat’s. On spending, what about? But on spending?

It will inevitably happen. It’s better to plan than to have a disaster. And make no mistake, a Harris/Walz government would almost guarantee a fiscal and tax policy catastrophe.
