A former ISIS bride asks the United States to allow her to return to Syria as a refugee from Alabama.

Hoda Muthana ran away from her home in Alabama at 20 years old to join the Islamic State, even having a child with one of the soldiers. Joining the group in 2014, Muthana said she was brainwashed by online traffickers and regrets all of her decisions, besides having her child, according to Yahoo! News.

Muthana was however very enthusiastic about joining ISIS in 2015. Muthana posted online about burning her passport and encouraging others to commit terrorist acts in America.

Muthana attempted to return to the United States in 2019 but President Trump declined her request with a simple tweet.

Her petition to reenter America in early 2022 was denied by the Supreme Court.

Muthana proved her citizenship during multiple interviews in 2019. She said she had a birth certificate. However, she decided not to wear it during a 2023 interview.

Muthana said that it was still frightening to see the presence of women who support ISIS in this area. They do however report all details to ISIS. ”

She replied, “I still believe I am a citizen now. ”

It was the worst feeling that I’ve ever had to hear that I wasn’t an American citizen.

Born in New Jersey to Yemini immigrants, Muthana was raised as a conservative Muslim in Hoover, Alabama.

She told her family she was on school vacation in 2014 and flew to Turkey to join ISIS. She used her tuition check to cover her travel.
