Fani Willis, the Fulton County district attorney is having a bad week. A Georgia judge has denied her request to quash a subpoena issued by the Georgia state senate.

Willis’s biggest enemy in the Fulton County RICO suit against Donald Trump, the former president, is now back at it, just one day before a hearing that she is expected to attend.

Ashleigh Merchant is a defense lawyer for one of former President’s co-defendants, in Georgia. Merchant filed a contempt motion against Willis the night before Willis was supposed to appear at a hearing relating to an open records lawsuit Merchant had filed against her.

The hearing is scheduled for 9:30 am (ET) Thursday as part of Merchant’s ongoing fight to defend herself against a RICO lawsuit against her client as well as Trump, and others.

Merchant has been a rising star in her high-profile fight against Willis. She led the effort to have Willis and Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor in the case, removed from the case due to allegations of a romance. The country was able to watch the hearings, which shed light on Willis’s and Wade’s morally and ethically questionable behavior. Wade has since left this case.

It was a humiliating episode in Trump’s legal battle.

Merchant has moved forward in her battle with Willis. She filed an open records suit against the Fulton County DA and, on Wednesday, filed a motion for Willis to be held in contempt of Court if she does not show up. This implies that Merchant wants Willis to either appear and answer any questions or to prove she is unable to handle this case.
