The first poll in his 2024 campaign shows that Democratic Ohio Senator Sherrodbrown is within the margins of error with all three of the declared Republican opponents.
Brown is currently serving his third time in the Ohio upper chamber. He is the only statewide Democrat elected in Ohio. East Carolina University’s poll showed that he was leading the businessman Bernie Moreno by 46-42. State Sen. Matt Dolan led him by 45-44. And Ohio Secretary of state Frank LaRose won 44-42. The poll had a four-percent margin of error for all three matches.
East Carolina University surveyed 805 registered voters between June 21-24. 402 were reached by landline, and 403 via an online panel.
Both Dolan, and Moreno ran for the GOP Senate primaries in 2022 to replace retiring Senator. Rob Portman. Dolan came in third behind JDVance and Josh Mandel. Moreno was eliminated early. Dolan’s family has a net worth of $5.2 billion and he is expected to spend a large amount of money during the 2024 campaign. He spent $10.6 million on the 2022 campaign.
Brown was elected in 2007 when Ohio had an 11-7 split of its congressional delegation in favor the GOP and a Democratic Governor. State has Republican Governor and 10-5 Republican-led delegation. GOP Gov. Mike DeWine was re-elected in 2022 with a 25 point margin, while Attorney General Dave Yost won with 20 points and LaRose by 20.
In the East Carolina poll, LaRose led with 17 percent followed by Dolan at 14 percent and Moreno at seven percent.
