ABC’s The View is always a sneering and generally racist TV show, which is a perfect example of this.
The “View” Crazy Train sped down the tracks on Wednesday. The Trump-hating co-hosts dragged out WWII Italy’s Fascist dictator Benito Mussolini and declared that Republicans long to live under a Mussolini-like dictatorship. They argued, with straight faces no less, that Trump’s pledges to rein in the Environment Protection Agency are comparable to those of Mussolini. And they warned that Trump could end up “hung… upside-down in a square” like the dictator.
How clever.
The segment started with a clip from Donald Trump’s town hall interview on Tuesday with Fox News’s Sean Hannity, in which the former President said that he had received a notice indicating that a grand jury was investigating his alleged efforts to interfere with a peaceful transfer of power following the 2020 elections. Here’s Trump:
You and I both feel the same way. Think of it. I received the letter Sunday night. I don’t believe they’ve sent a mail on Sunday night before. They’re rushing because they want interference — it’s an attempt to influence the election. This is election interference. It has never happened before in our history.
It was enough for the “The View’s” geniuses to launch into a rant about Trump’s fascist ways. Joy Behar, with nostrils flaring, even became extra cranky over Trump’s use of the term “country.”
When he uses the word “country”, I get nauseated. […] I think he doesn’t care one iota for the country. Every time he says that it rings true.
Whoopi Goldberg also took the chance to make a dig at Ron DeSantis who is running for president in 2024 as a Republican candidate from Florida.
It’s fascinating that so many of the people you have talked about don’t even admit to doing anything wrong. They want to do exactly the same thing. DeSantis also wants the same type of country. He believes — and I believe he also wants to be a dictator.
I think many of the people who are supporting this view this as an interesting prospect. I must tell you that I am — I never imagined in my life that this country would come so close to a dictatorship.
It is both amusing and troubling that “The View”, with its daily bile, can keep a large enough audience to continue on television. It’s also true that, like with political figures who are potentially destructive, it is less about them and more about their legions of loyalists.
Alyssa Griffin, a token (sometimes) Republican, also joined the bandwagon. She first declared her (faux) conservatism credentials — only to defame Trump.
The New York Times has a big article on Donald Trump. Yesterday, we briefly discussed it. Donald Trump’s entourage is now publicly stating that his plans for a 2nd term include the growth of the executive branch and the power of the presidency. To eliminate checks and equal branches of government.
I am a conservative and have been one for longer than Donald Trump. This is not conservative. This is a growing federal government and power for one person. It’s a small step towards dictatorship. Exactly.
Sunny Hostin, after more of the same Sunny Hostin, played the Mussolini Card:
Mussolini was also of the same mind that he would take these agencies under his control and remove them from their current status. He was successful in this.
